Fiapo, as pequenas grandezas de um ser minúsculo (Thread, the small greatnesses of a minuscule being) is a project that is very dear to us.
Written and illustrated by Hellington Vieira — whose brain is more colourful than then light spectrum —, this book is a whimsical love story about a rogue fabric thread.
Composed and letterpress printed by us on cotton paper, lay flat bound. Honorary Mention at Prémio Design do Livro and shortlisted at Stiftung-Buchkunst — Best Book Design.
The whole process of composition and printing was manual, letter by letter, zinc plate gravure by zinc plate gravure, spread by spread.
The characteristic dent and ink spread of letterpress printing is emphasized by the cushioning acid-free cotton paper, while the lay-flat binding allows a completely flat opening, highlighting the print’s texture.
The title piece on the spine, however, is a custom rubber-stamp, soft enough not to deform the folds.
