Rúben R. Dias’ PhD thesis on the work of Jean de Villeneuve and Portugal’s first typeface, cut upon King John V’s request. An in-depth historical and typographic analysis on Portuguese context during the 18th century, as well as the development and reasoning of a type revival based on Villeneuve’s work. The book features a craft paper cover printed in black from movable type, connecting the technique with the contents. A smyth sewn book block, glued with water-based adhesive, reveals the folds and sewing on the spine, where the long title of the book was printed, in black and white.
